(DailyFix.org) – Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to telling the truth. His recent remarks about a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron only put his honesty more in question.
Putin and Macron met to discuss the situation with Ukraine on February 7. After the meeting, reports stated the two leaders had reached a peace deal. Paris reported Macron had obtained concessions from Putin. Yet, the Russian president now denies these claims and is making a new threat.
Macron said Putin had told him he wouldn’t escalate the situation with Ukraine. Putin accuses the West of disregarding his concerns and now threatens nuclear war if Ukraine joins NATO. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Paris has no authority to make deals. He also stated there’s no solution in sight as tensions continue to escalate.
The fiery statements came just before Putin met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv. The two leaders discussed making Ukraine neutral to allow for friendly coexistence between Russia and NATO.
As Kremlin forces continue to move to the Ukraine border, Putin has insisted he has no plans to invade. His threats of war with Europe seem to go against his insistence he isn’t preparing for battle. Which of the Russian president’s stances should the world believe?
